Metro Vancouver, known as a melting pot of the world is home to diverse people and cultures. A team of local storytellers are on a mission to showcase Surrey as the definition of a multicultural Canadian city through an upcoming web series. The team is slated to film Welcome to Surrey later this summer.
[Welcome to Surrey is a comedic web series about having a background in one culture but born and raised in another. Suneet, a law student in Toronto, comes home to Surrey to look after her ailing father. She reconnects with old friends and re-ignites a romantic relationship that forces her to choose between the predictability of her old life and the exciting but scary potential of her new one, confronting what it really means to leave home and become an “adult”.]
The web series is independently produced by Dunya Media and was submitted to STORYHIVE – a community-powered funding program and public access program competition for emerging content creators in BC and Alberta by Telus Communications.
The goal behind making Welcome to Surrey is to have a story that reflects Canada by exploring fusion culture, city beautification, identity and going beyond the single narrative.
