A VPD police officer immediately took leave after a YouTube video surfaced of him punching a cyclist in the face in Yaletown this past Tuesday.
The cyclist was originally “pulled over” for running a red light and not wearing a helmet. After an exchange of words, the police decided to arrest the cyclist, and everything that happened from there was caught on tape by a friend.
It’s clear the Police will argue the cyclist was ‘resisting’, but even if he was, is punching him in the face and leaving him with a broken tooth and a pierced lip really justified? Let’s hope not. There’s been reports of Police offers using excessive force in BC, fortunately this incident was caught on tape and will hold a stronger ground when being reviewed.
