Following a 911 call from a concerned citizen, the Vancouver Police Department arrived on scene at an East Vancouver gas station shortly after 7:00pm on Thursday night, to find a strange man with hand grenades in the back of his cargo van.

A 33-year-old Surrey man was taken into custody and the VPD closed down the station at Fraser Street and King Edward Avenue.

The VPD bomb disposal unit took the grenades to a park to detonate them through controlled explosion.

Locals nearby were “nervous” about the incident and worried about why this is now happening in Canada.

According to the VPD, the arrested man also had some knives and a tactical vest in his van. He was a prohibited driver who had a small amount of marijuana and brass knuckles in his pocket.

Multiple charges will be requested against the Surrey man.
