In September of 2015, the City of Richmond debuted a new innovative $1 million playground that payed tribute to the city’s agricultural history. The playground came equipped with everything from a treehouse to zip lines and brought new life into Terra Nova Rural Park.

Richmond has now been forced to close off parts of the playground for safety reasons as vandals heavily damaged the property, specifically the 10-metre tower and slide.
Richmond’s senior manager of parks, Mike Redpath, states vandals cut safety nets that prevented children from falling from the top deck of the tower. The vandals damaged the netting in December, and then again late January. Richmond park planners are now considering to replace the nets with stainless steel mesh.
The RCMP has opened an investigation, and intends to keep an increased watch on the park.
