BC Hydro has its hands full after someone decided to cut down four high-voltage transmission poles in the Green Timbers area of Surrey early Wednesday morning.
At around 1:00 am, 6,000 homes in Whalley were left without power as four poles carrying 25,000 volts each hit the ground one after another.
The random act reasonably comes as a shock to residents, and BC Hydro. The corporation expressed that their extremely concerned with the dangerous act of vandalism, which looks to be carried out with a chainsaw.
“This could have injured or killed a member of the public or our crews as BC Hydro worked to make repairs,”
Crews were able to restore power to a majority of customers within a couple hours and have a team of a dozen working on repairs, which are expected to be completed within the day.
The incident is being investigated by both BC Hydro and the Surrey RCMP.
