The Vancouver International Film Festival got a whole lot more immersive this year as they’ve combined video and music experiences at the Late Night at VIFF Hub event series.
Each night features unique visuals and music talent like We Are the City, K!mmortal, Desi Sub Culture and more. Vancity Theatre was host to Vancouver Web Creators Night on Monday which featured special screenings by local YouTubers, videographers and other content creators.
The first half of the video programming included eclectic travel video diaries by Francisco “Birdo” Fuentes, a hysterical origin story and look back at IFHT Films, dance-on-films by Christina Schell and an inside look at the Burning Man music festival by the guys of High on Life. During the intermission local hip-hop artist K!mmortal rocked the stage in front of festival goers and creatives. The second half of the video programming featured a cinematic wedding compilation by VanWeddings, epic helicopter and drone videos by Bradley Friesen and some inspirational travel videos by Christian LeBlanc.
The goal of the event which was hosted by VIFF and supported by 604 Now and do604 was to showcase local creative talent on the big stage. It made all the difference seeing these entertaining web videos we usually see on YouTube via smartphones and tablets front and centre on the big screen with the big sound.
