A lot happens in Vancouver. And even more so in the summertime. At 604 Now, we’re here to help you sort through all the news so you know what’s important in your city, and what there is going on. Here is everything you need to know about from this past week.
Urban Development News
This was a big week for Vancouver, in terms of development news. Approval for a 2-storey standalone Apple flagship store was passed this week, and two big supermarkets with a unique, South-Asian focus opened their doors for business.
Silicon Valley North
This week also saw Fortune 500 company Fujitsu select Vancouver to be the home of their global artificial intelligence HQ. Amazon also announced that they are opening Canada’s first Cloud Innovation Centre, at UBC. This continues a recent trend of Silicon Valley companies moving up here to Vancouver, so we here at 604 Now thought it would be nice to put together a list of world-renowned tech companies that you may or may not have known were in Vancouver. Best part? They’re hiring.
A Series of Humourous Events
NBA champion and former Toronto Raptor Danny Green was in town this week. His trip got off to a rough start, though, as a few of his bags were stolen from his car. Nobody was hurt, but Vancouver isn’t feeling too sympathetic for the 3-point sharpshooter, as his bags were in the backseat of a car in…East Hastings. Also, two seniors are in hot water for throwing hot soup at a woman following an argument.
