Equal parts surreal and chilly, the meshing trio Post Death Soundtrack is back after a three year hiatus with a 9-track collection The Unlearning Curve. The collective members Kenneth, Steven and Job collaborate cross country online from Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto to produce their own eerie sound of psychedelic pop-rock. The group rocks their own beat, drawing on the likes of the Beatles and David Bowie circa psych-era and trip hop electronic 90’s music.
Conceptually a personified version of Alice in Wonderland, the band intertwines electronica and lyrics into their own dream… or nightmare. It’s a darkly intoxicating sound with horror and drama splashes you might vibe to or be turned off by.
The return-album is an adventure down the rabbit hole, into a 40 minute trip of sorts. The ‘dream language’ narrative flows like an imaginary tale that escalates track to track. Makes sense that it’s available on limited edition vinyl format for raw enjoyment in addition to free download. Toronto artist Kayla Brown’s original painting serves as the album cover, depicting a musical abyss inside. The album was mostly recorded in Vancouver and mastered at Suite Sound Labs.
Escapism-of-a-listen if you’re in that mood, because it will drown out everything else going on in your mind. It’s definitely music with purpose; to dive into the deep unknown without expectation.
