Vancouver Production of Power Rangers Movie Reboot Delayed

Power Rangers Reboot To Be Filmed In Vancouver

It’s Morphin’ Time! As if you didn’t dress up as a Power Ranger totting a morpher and mega blaster for Halloween as a kid.

The good news is a modern Power Rangers movie is in the works, the bad is that the release has been pushed back. The release date for the film reboot Power Rangers is now March 24, 2017 – which will make it 10 years to the week since the last feature film in the franchise. The previous films were Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997). The television series has been running since 1993 with 22 seasons (over 19 series themes) and sources footage and material from the Japanese live-action series Super Sentai.

The American entertainment and merchandise franchise also includes action figures, video games and home media. Haim Saban first created the series and produced it through Saban Entertainment, in the decades since complex rights ownership and acquisitions had it owned by Disney for seven years. Saban, which regained ownership in 2010, and Lionsgate announced they were teaming up to reboot the film category in 2014. Filming and production in Vancouver has been pushed back a month and will commence at the end of Februrary until April.

South African director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is set to direct the mighty morphin’ costume heroes. Casting is complete and will see an array of actors fill in the character shoes of Kimberly, Jason, Zack, Billy and Trini:

  • Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger
  • Becky G as Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger
  • RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger
  • Ludi Lin as Zach Taylor, the Black Ranger
  • Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott, the Red Ranger
  • Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa
