Vancouver mayor, Gregor Robertson, is one among many metro Vancouver mayors who believe that the need for Transit Police is not necessary.
Many believe we don’t need Transit Police when each city already has their own forces covering buses and trains. Robertson supports the policing we have in metro Vancouver and believes that we should primarily use our own forces versus keeping the Transit Police who he claims are more expensive to operate.
Robertson wants TransLink to focus their attention solely on the transportation aspect, and leave the worry of policing to the city.
Transit police chief Neil Dubord however claims it will cost taxpayers MORE money to actually get rid of the force, and then cities would have to hire more officers to replace the existing transit police.
Do you believe Transit police are necessary in the 604, or can regular officers do the trick?
