Vancouver Airwall Company Wins Oscar For Technical Achievement

It’s Oscar season…

And it’s no surprise that cinematic innovations are being advanced right here in the Hollywood of the North. Even better, technical achievements are being given industry-wide recognition. Vancouver-based Aircover Inflatables was awarded with the Oscar for Technical Achievement for their outdoor visual effects screen system, the “Airwall”.

The company started off supplying “the film industry with a more advanced, safer, cost efficient, and environmentally friendly technique of building outdoor screens.” Developments from overhead diffusion area screens led to the Airwall which works as an outdoor VFX screen.

The Scientific and Technical Awards given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science recognize accomplishments and innovations in the motion picture industry. The ceremony for 88th Academy Awards takes place February 28th, 2016 in Hollywood and is hosted by Chris Rock. The televised spectacle of Hollywood’s elite will dish out Oscars in 24 categories.

A separate ceremony for Technical Achievement Awards takes place on Valentine’s Day and is hosted by Olivia Munn and Jason Segel. Another event, the Governor’s Awards for 2015, took place this past November to recognize Spike Lee and Gena Rowlands with Academy Honorary Awards. A humanitarian award went to Debbie Reynolds, accepted by her granddaughter on her behalf.
