#IAMUBC is a heavily popular social media campaign at UBC which encourages students to share all their UBC related thoughts, pictures, and experiences with the hashtag. If you take a walk along the campus you will also notice #IAMUBC mats which encourage students to fill in the blank of a short message. Some of the more “cheesy” mats we have walked past have read:
I came to UBC for:
- YOLO
- Swag
- Ocean Views With GF
- Spend Daddy’s Money
- Pit Nights
However, by far the mat that has received the most attention is the ‘I came to UBC for Quidditch [Lightening Bolt]”
UBC is notorious for being related to Hogwarts, and ironically even has its own Harry Potter inspired room and a Quidditch club. For all you non-Harry Potter fans, Quidditch is an extremely rough but very popular semi-contact sport, played by wizards and witches. Matches are played between two teams of seven players riding flying broomsticks, using three balls, the Quaffle, Bludgers, and the Golden Snitch. There are six elevated ring-shaped goals, three on each side of the Quidditch pitch. Quidditch is also the reason students around the 604 select to attend UBC..

Well played UBC, well played.
