Toronto Raptors To Practice In Burnaby During Preseason

A portion of preseason training camp for the Toronto Raptors will be held at the Fortius Sport and Health Clinic, located near Burnaby Lake on Kensington Avenue, an exciting marketing development for Canada’s one and only NBA franchise after the Vancouver Grizzlies went defunct in 2001.

Opening their training camp in Toronto’s Air Canada Centre that is set to commence Sept. 29th until Oct. 2nd, the Raptors plan to move their private practices to Vancouver from Oct. 3rd to the 4th, a move out west that coincides with the exhibition game that they are scheduled to play against the Sacramento Kings in Rogers Arena on Oct. 5th.

Making this press release announce at Fortius this Wednesday, the Raptors focused on discussing their preparations for the upcoming 2014 season, which will be their first playoff season since 2008, a big deal for Canadian basketball fans everywhere.

The announcement that the Raptors will be having part of their training camp in Vancouver is not surprising given that it’s not the first time that the team has made their way to the best coast to make use of Vancouver’s training facilities with their last visit taking place back in 2010, along with an exhibition game against the Phoenix Suns on that occasion.

Fortius, a 61 million dollar training and sports centre, is an ideal training location for a playoffs team, being touted as a “one-stop shop” by Fortius spokesperson Caleb Cousens. It is also a way for the Raptors to spread their brand throughout Canada. As the only Canadian basketball team to be in the NBA, and to make it to the playoffs, the Raptors have a lot of untapped marketing potential, and this is realized through their We the North campaign that aims to look beyond the east coast in what will be a two year intensive undertaking to reboot the brand.
