Things You Didn't Know You Could Do In Hope B.C. (Video)

Out to the east end of the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland sits the district municipality of Hope, British Columbia. It’s located at the junction of the Fraser and Coquihalla rivers at the southern end of the Fraser Canyon. Further east over the Cascade Mountains is the province’s Interior region.

A video by Tourism Hope hopes you will “embrace the journey” as part of their #EmbraceHopeBC campaign. The video showcases various outdoor activities from river rafting to soaring in the cascades and canyons region of the Fraser Valley. There’s even a little dubstep added to the melodic instrumentals as the journey unfolds:

Hope is rich in history. First Nations settlements go back thousands of years and European settlement to the area dates back to the early 1800’s. It went from the Fort Hope trading post of Hudson’s Bay Company in 1848 to a British colony town site during the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush.

Did you know?

  • Christ Church is a National Historic Site of Canada and oldest church on the province’s mainland that still holds services at the original site
  • Interment camps for Japanese Canadians were set up near Hope during World War 2
  • Nestlé Waters packages more than 300 million liters of water a year from Hope aquifers and is one of the area’s largest employers
  • Hope is also known as the Chainsaw Carving Capital of British Columbia for its chainsaw wood carving competitions, exhibitions and community sculptures.
