Surrey RCMP Detain Masked Men ‘Playing’ With Fake Guns

By a show of hands, who thinks it’s a good idea to wear a mask and run around (Surrey, of all places) with authentic looking guns?

If you’re smart, you probably didn’t raise your hand.

But, to the group of 5 masked men who were chasing each other around outside of Guildford Mall on Saturday evening, we can’t say the same thing about you.

From afar, your guns don’t look like plastic; your masks are intimidating and your way of ‘playing’ looks pretty dangerous to innocent bystanders.

And so, the Surrey RCMP were called to an underground parkade at Guildford Centre Mall around 8:40pm on Saturday, after people nearby reported seeing a group of men in masks with guns.

Not only were the men detained by police – they were held at gunpoint. Shortly after, the RCMP determined that the pistols were merely imitation firearms.

The police release stated that the men were “just playing around, and could not give any legitimate reason for their actions in the parkade.”

Though it’s uncertain whether or not charges will be pressed against the men, police do want to remind others that it is difficult for them to distinguish between real and fake guns. Essentially, it’s never a good idea to dress in masks and roam the streets with what look to be authentic firearms.

Moral of the story: if you feel the need to play dress up and chase your friends with plastic guns, just stick to your mother’s basement.
