Surrey Hosts Its First Ever Pride Parade (Photos)

Surrey has held Pride festivities for the past 17 years but it wasn’t until this past weekend that the city held its own Pride parade.

The parade took place just before noon on Sunday and travelled from City Hall Plaza to Holland Park, through University Boulevard.

Despite the short route, the event was highly significant for the local LGBTQ community and a big step in pushing traditional values and creating awareness.

In addition to the parade, Surrey’s City Council unanimously voted to fly a Pride flag at the city hall as well as illuminate the outdoor plaza with rainbow colors to show sympathy and support for the LGBTQ community following the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.

Surrey also successfully hosted their first  LGBTQ Prom Night for high school students last Monday.
