Richard Branson To Provide Vancouver Youth With Free Cell Phones & Plans

What a guy Richard Branson truly is!

Richard Branson, better known as Virgin Group fonder has unveiled the new Phones For Change program that allows subsidized cellphones to support Vancouver’s homeless and at-risk youth!

Vancouver children from Vancouver’s Broadway Youth Resource Centre (BYRC) along with Winnipeg’s Resource Assistance for Youth, will be the first to try the new program. While the plans are provided free of charge, BYRC has mentioned that they plan to set the phones up on monthly bills that the children will be responsible, and by paying for their “bill” the money will later be used towards a debt or goal of their choice! 15 chosen Vancouver youth from BYRC will be receiving a Virgin Mobile phone that comes along with a monthly plan.

Branson believes that by providing at-risk teens with a cell phone, they can keep in touch with their families and friends, along with potential employees, as having their own number will likely increase their chances at getting a job and getting out of poverty and hardships. BYRC youth will also be educated on financial management and given life skills and tips regarding how to climb out of debt or poverty.

What a generous man, and a great cause!
