It’s raining but it doesn’t mean you and your significant other have to Netflix and chill. There are tons of ways to create new experiences of the budget variety, even when the weather is doing its best to push you and your loved one inside to gorge on your latest binge-watching marathon expedition.

Whether it is arts and culture, entertainment and food – there are rainy day date ideas that are budget-friendly for the creative couple.

Movie Night

Cheap Date Monday and Tuesdays from Rio Theatre are a great toofer i.e. 2-for-1 deal for couples. During these days, their regular ticket price is marked half-off from $12 to $6. Rio Theatre shows new and noteworthy films such as Oscar nominees to perennial cult classics that’ll satisfy the movie mood for the night.

Art Gallery Trip

The admission for Vancouver Art Gallery is by donation on Tuesdays, which is coincidentally one of its most busiest days. It’s a low-key activity for the couple that’d like to spend a few hours exploring exhibitions such as The Birth of Modern Culture by walking around and looking at neat art.

Book & Coffee Swap

A fun way to switch up the early morning date is book swapping. A bookstore like The Paper Hound holds vintage pulp fiction books that run anywhere from $4 to $8 a pop for a story with a cover of a pin-up model snorkeling with a hammerhead shark. Swapping books that’d amuse an S/O is a fun way to “read” each other’s tastes and humour, and a relaxing way to enjoy a cup of coffee after the thrifty expedition.

Drop-In Yoga Class

Drop-in yoga classes are an alternative method for a couple to burn calories together. While yoga memberships can be pricy, drop-in rates are quite affordable for a couple to spend 90 minutes together to stretch and sweat. Y Yoga, Bikram’s Yoga and Semperviva Yoga range from $20 – $22.

Amateur Comedy Night

Yuk Yuk’s Vancouver Comedy Club puts on its amateur comic night every week on Wednesday evenings. Local amateur comics have five minutes to make with the funny, an uncensored experience available at $6.67 per ticket. There’s two open slots every night, so there’s even an opportunity for one lucky couple to get involved too.
