Power Rangers Movie To Film In Richmond’s Steveston Village

Power Rangers Reboot To Be Filmed In Vancouver

The streets of Richmond’s Steveston Village are set to morph and serve as a backdrop for one of the most popular 1990’s shows.

The Power Rangers, who were scheduled to begin filming their reboot earlier this year, will arrive in Richmond to film from Monday, April 25 to Thursday, May 19.

The production will create 300 local full-time jobs for a minimum of five months.

Majority of the filming will take place on Moncton Street between First and Third avenue. There will also be additional filming on Bayview Street between First and Third avenue, and at the intersection of Moncton Street and No.1 Road.

This will ultimately result in road closures and intermittent traffic control during each filming day, specifically between 7:00am – 10:00pm.

Street parking will also be limited, but there will be free parking provided at the Gulf of Georgia cannery lot on Chatham Street for Steveston Village visitors.

“Filming provides significant economic benefits and the City of Richmond is committed to being a film-friendly city,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “We are excited to welcome Lionsgate and Saban Brands’ production of the Power Rangers. While filming takes place, Steveston businesses will still be open. We encourage the public to visit the village to enjoy all Steveston has to offer, and, at the same time, catch a glimpse of a major movie shoot.”

Richmond has benefitted heavily from the latest tourism surge in metro Vancouver, and the movie will no doubt add to the city’s list of attractions.

British Columbia’s film scene continues to rapidly grow and it’s exciting to see which project the province will attract next. Recent major filmings in B.C. include Pirates of the Carribean, 50 Shades of Grey, and Prison Break. Vancouver filmed Deadpool has also gone onto to become the highest grossing R-rated film in history.

The Power Rangers movie is scheduled to hit the big screen in January 2017. View the lead cast HERE.
