City Of Port Coquitlam Employee Confesses To $175,000 Theft

An employee for the City of Port Coquitlam has been caught stealing $175,000 of taxpayers money.

The City worker has been stealing money for over two years, using their exclusive access to city accounts and credit cards.

The scheme began in April 2014 by purchasing various tools with City money and then reselling them through a third-party broker for cash.

It wasn’t on anyone’s radar until someone came forward with information this February. The worker clearly had a vast knowledge of the system and was able to make many smaller tool and power tool purchases with City credit cards for years, without anyone realizing it.

The employee has admitted to the theft, resigned from their job, and paid the money back in full.

The City hasn’t released the identity of the worker or filed a report to police yet.
