Sneezing more often than usual? Don’t worry– it’s not just you.
B.C.’s pollen season has been far worse than past years, says experts. And it seems like it’ll only keep getting worse.
ACHOO!
If you’re sneezing even though you don’t normally do so during this time of the year, you’re not alone. The number of pollen-sensitive and allergic people are growing each year, so it might be time to get your tissues prepared for the summer from here on out.

Adding to that is the fact that it’s peak pollen season in Metro Vancouver, but a number of factors have increased that pollen by a considerable amount. Recent heat waves have made it particularly bad for heightening pollen levels.
HEAT, POLLEN, AND MORE POLLEN
Climate change is a large contributor in spiking pollen levels.
As the world heats and summers become more concentrated, more pollen is produced by plants. And then when that dry weather picks up said pollen in the wind, it gets spread far across the land– landing right where your nose is inhaling it and subsequently sneezing it out.
With more pollen in the air, more people are likely to develop an allergy to it, as well. Unfortunately, it looks like pollen seasons are slated to get far, far longer than they are now.

TODAY’S POLLEN LEVELS
As for Thursday, pollen levels are reportedly moderate to very low, as per the Weather Network for Vancouver. For trees, “it’s a great day to enjoy the outdoors!” says The Weather Network.
It’s a different story if you’re in the grass, though. The Weather Network recommends:
- Showering and washing your hair after spending considerable time outdoors
- Wearing sunglasses and a cap to keep pollen out of your face and eyes
- Wash clothes that have been worn outdoors
- And wear glasses instead of contact lenses
The weekend is slated to be a very low-pollen time, so it’s the perfect couple of days for you pollen-allergic folk to get outside without sneezing!
