Petition Calls For Canadian Police To Undergo Mandatory Drug Test

An online petition calling for Canadian police to undergo mandatory drug tests is sparking a lot of support online.

The petition’s platform, Change.org, is a website dedicated for change, and allows people from anywhere in the world to start campaigns, mobilize supporters, and work with decision makers to drive solutions.

Titled “Mandatory drug test for police in Canada” the petition is a letter to Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, and states that officers should be treated no different than other workers.

“If oil workers have to test for drug and alcohol use due to risks in the workplace, so should police officers who carry deadly weapons and enforce laws.”

Within a month, the petition has garnered 9,336 online signatures, and is within reach of its 10,000 signature goal.

Canadians supporting the petition have also shared their views on the call to action:

“It makes total sense. They are there to uphold the law not be above it. If they are all good law abiding citizens then they should have no problem with it. They should do it randomly with no warning just like with other jobs.”
