It probably doesn’t come as a shock, but Vancouver had one of its driest and hottest summers to date.

As a result, the Vancouver Park Board has announced that two major Vancouver outdoor pools will enjoy an extended season. Specifically, the board is extending the season at Kits and New Brighton pools.

New Brighton Pool will remain open an extra five days through September 9th, while the newly renovated Kits Pool will remain open through September 23rd.

In addition, other outdoor pools will remain open an extra day and close after September 4th. Water parks will remain open until September 30th and offer an alternative way to beat the heat.

“We know how much Vancouverites value their outdoor pools and beaches, and all things aquatic,” said VPB Chair Stuart MacKinnon.

“We responded to the hot, dry summer by extending pool and water park hours and are now adding more swimming days to outdoor pools on both the east and west sides of the city.”

Kitsilano Pool opened up during the May long weekend and was originally slated to close September 4th. The heated pool is wheelchair accessible, offers three slides, and measures 137 metres in length. This makes it over double the size of an Olympic pool.
