North Vancouver Shipyards To Undergo Complete Makeover

North Vancouver’s waterfront is set to get a whole new look with a massive re-design in the works.

The City has announced they are partnering with developer Quay Property Management Corp. to create a unique and interactive place that will include restaurants, shops, a boutique hotel, a water play area and an outdoor public skating rink (which would make it the largest of its kind in the Lower Mainland).

“This project is going to provide the community with a new level of interaction with the City’s waterfront, and will be providing new businesses with a truly unique environment to operate in,” says Gary Mathiesen, President, Quay Property Management Corp. “The result will be a world-class destination for year-round activity in the Shipyards. We are honoured to be a part of the continued growth of this vibrant community.”

The Shipyards have been restored a lot through out the years with added public plazas, interpretive signage and waterfront walkways.

The last remaining space to be developed is Lot 5—where the City wanted to create a “significant people place with active and interrelated public spaces offering year-round activities all of which are supported by a surrounding commercial development.”

Construction will begin this Spring and the new development is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2018.

“This is a turning point for our City,” says Mayor Darrell Mussatto. “The development plans for The Shipyards exceed our expectations. This is exactly what people have been asking for. As promised, The Shipyards will be a people place, a gathering space, vibrant with activity and amenities for young and old, residents and visitors alike. We will deliver a dynamic waterfront like no other, completing the revitalization of the City of North Vancouver Central Waterfront.”
