No more parking fees in B.C. provincial parks

BC adventures

British Columbians who want to take their moms to a provincial park for Mother’s Day on Sunday will get a break with free parking.

Premier Christy Clark has announced that, effective immediately, parking fees have been cut at all provincial parks.

Clark and Environment Minister Terry Lake made the announcement as they launched BC Parks centennial celebrations that will continue throughout the year.

Clark says more no parking fees will mean more park visitors and more tourism dollars and jobs for rural residents.

She also announced a $500,000 program to support community groups who want to improve parks by applying for up to $20,000 for projects such as trail enhancements.

B.C. has the second-largest park system in Canada, with almost 14 per cent of the province set aside as parkland and protected areas.
