New 3 Hour Ferry Service Between Vancouver & Victoria To Launch This Summer

New Ferry For High End Travelers Proposed Between Vancouver And Victoria

A new ferry service between Victoria’s Inner Harbour and Vancouver was proposed last September, and will likely become a reality as early as this summer.

The new private passenger ferry was proposed by Riverside Marine, an Australian based company that hopes to boost tourism with a 300 passenger ferry operating from Victoria’s Inner Harbour to downtown Vancouver.

While a trip from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen using BC Ferries typically takes 90 minutes, a trip using the private ferry will take three and a half hours, and cost $80 for a one way ticket. The idea behind the private ferry is to provide an alternate option for locals and tourists who want to enjoy the scenic experience, rather than a quick point-to-point transportation.

Five months after the proposal , Riverside Marine has successfully signed a lease agreement with the Great Victoria Authority for dedicated space on both the main floor and top floor at the CPR Steamship Terminal building, as well as a water lot on the harbour.

Riverside Marine will operate daily sailings that are expected to leave Vancouver in the morning, and return from Victoria in the afternoon, covering 59 nautical miles each way.
