Being a good neighbour is what Canadians are all about, but one B.C. city just took the cake when it comes to giving.

GoFundMe In 2025

GoFundMe has just published their 2025 “Year In Help”, which is a roundup of all the kindness that people have expressed through donations in the year. The summary includes things like how many donations were made in the year, how many fundraisers were shared, and the number of donations per second.

It seems like the world was feeling pretty generous in 2025. 79M donations were given this year, with 2.5 donations made every second.

Included in the roundup are the most generous countries in the world, with a further breakdown into the most generous cities within a country. As for Canada, it takes 5th place out of the most generous countries. They’re beaten out by Australia, the U.K., the U.S., and Ireland, which took 1st place.

Most Generous Community In Canada

The title for most generous community in Canada goes to Victoria, B.C. for the third year in a row.

In a news release, GoFundMe CEO Tim Cadogan said, “This year’s top communities showcase the very best of us; they prove that help is inherently human, with friends uniting, strangers stepping in, and entire cities answering the call. What we’re seeing, year after year, is that when needs grow, Canadians respond swiftly and emphatically.”

GoFundMe recorded over 18,500 unique donors from Victoria. Using 2021 Canadian census data, that means that around 1/5 Victoria residents donated to a fundraiser on the platform.

But that’s not all– out of the top 10 most generous communities in Canada, 7 cities are from B.C. This includes North Vancouver, Vancouver, New Westminster, Kamloops, Port Coquitlam, and Kelowna, as well as Victoria itself.

Here’s a look at the top 10:

  1. Victoria, BC
  2. North Vancouver, BC
  3. Vancouver, BC
  4. Saint John’s, NL
  5. New Westminster, BC
  6. Kamloops, BC
