The Vancouver-based establishment Mega iLL, located at 646 Kingsway, is embracing the cannabis culture by serving customers pot as a pizza topping.
Obviously, due to legal reasons—the restaurant does not actually sell marijuana. They will only infuse pot (for a $10 fee) that medical marijuana users possess and customers must be at least 18 years of age or older. To order the marijuana-infused pizza, you must have two pieces of ID and the exemption card. The business also acts as a vapour lounge, where customers are able to rent vapourizers.
The pot can be added to the pizza in two different ways: using ground marijuana and sprinkling it on top before cooking or infusing it into an olive oil and then adding it to the pizza. Additionally, customers are able to smoke a joint in the restaurant.
The owners, Rocky Tolfree and Mark Klokeid dreamt of creating a marijuana-friendly establishment that had a positive and casual atmosphere. Both are cancer survivors who used medical marijuana during their treatment. It mentions on their website that Mega iLL is “for the patients and owned by patients.”
Mega iLL Pizzeria chef, Jesse Sindayen told The Vancouver Sun, “I’ve worked in the service industry for many years but people who come here are like none other. There’s such unity and it’s so peaceful. People take their masks off. They come in and feel right away like they’re home. It’s that kind of vibe.”
The restaurant also strives to offer healthy food options by serving hemp heart pizza “with a one of a kind taste.”
