He’s back!
The Vancouver Canucks have brought back fan favourite Manny Malhotra to serve as Development Coach. He spent three seasons with the Canucks, and was one of the league leaders in the face-off circle.
Malhotra, now 36 last played in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks in 2012-13, and spent last season with the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters.
Malhotra amassed 295 points (116-179-295) and 451 penalty minutes in 991 games over an 18-year NHL career. Returning to the Canucks seems like a logical decision, since many of his former teammates are still in town.
Last year, Vancouver was dead last in the NHL in faceoff win percentage at 45.4%. In a league that emphasizes puck possession, that is a huge red flag and an area that Malhotra can help improve right away.
After bringing in Trevor Linden last year this move will surely get fans to further buy into the process.
