Vancouver Police arrived on scene and proceeded to negotiate with him. Despite the efforts of the officers, the man lit himself on fire.

The man, in his 30s, entered the McDonald’s restaurant near Commercial Drive and East Broadway Avenue carrying a gasoline can, threatening to harm himself.

Officers eventually used less lethal Arwen rounds, and members from Vancouver Fire and Rescue used a high-pressure water hose on the man.

The man was transported to hospital with serious burn injuries and the restaurant sustained some property damage. Moreover, no one else was injured in the incident.

There is no further information to release at this time. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIOBC) are now investigating.
