With Halloween upon us, if you haven’t made any effort to get into the spirit time is of the essence! I know that a many of our fellow Vancouverites are too busy watching hockey or writing midterms or just plain old hiding from the rain, and we don’t blame you. However, Halloween only comes once a year, so be sure to embrace it while you can!

I teamed up with my long time friend Trixie Pacis to give you guys some easy ideas for carving your pumpkins last minute, and three different recipes that will help you utilize all of the pumpkin’s insides. Instead of tossing the pumpkin’s insides after carving, whip up one -or all- of these recipes, and know that your tummy -and the environment- will thank you.
Just to be safe, we made sure to execute each of the recipes for you first (with a bottle of our favourite red) to iron out any kinks and make sure that the recipes were as good as they seemed. They are all incredibly easy, I would definitely recommend giving them a try!
First, Carve your pumpkin. We chose to do a sugar skull for ours because it’s a super easy design, and for the more intricate designs you don’t need to full on cut the chunks out, simply scraping to carve them creates a multi-dimensional look. Other popular pumpkin ideas are as follows, according to Pinterest:
- Anything Disney themed. Stencil.
- The Hilarious Butt-Pumpkin. Stencil.
- Vampire Pumpkins, and Throwing Up Pumpkins. Stencil.
Once you’re all carved, and have separated, washed and dried your seeds, toss them into a frying pan and heat to bring out their flavour. Trix and I bought an extra medium sized pumpkin strictly to use the meat. Two of the recipes call for Pumpkin puree, and we made our puree from scratch (just bake cubes of pumpkin meat at 400F for 45 minutes and then blend until smooth). However, you can totally buy the puree as well.
The best part of the recipes is that they’re all only two steps, which makes it easy as can be to get a little taste of autumn. Enjoy!
