A silent documentary film in full colour captures a royal visit to Vancouver over 75 years ago. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth arrived in Vancouver on May 29, 1939. This trip to Canada was the first time a sitting British monarch ventured to any self-governing dominion.
After a royal welcoming ceremony, the drive through Vancouver includes hot spots like City Hall, Hastings Park, Spanish Banks and the Lion’s Gate Bridge. The film was made available courtesy of the City of Vancouver Archives:
