Value Village on Runnel Road was evacuated earlier this morning after a device was found in a donation bin.
According to the Coquitlam RCMP, the device was found just before ten o’clock on Friday morning, and the store was evacuated immediately.
The device turned out to be an inert grenade, which is a dummy grenade often used by the military during practice drills.
The evacuation order has been lifted and the RCMP have confirmed there is no risk to the public.
Ironically, this is the second inert grenade situation in metro Vancouver within 24 hours. On Thursday, authorities temporarily shut down the Sumas border crossing in Abbotsford after agents discovered a dummy grenade in a vehicle heading into Canada.
All three passengers in the vehicle were taken into custody. It’s unclear if they will face charges.
