IKEA Canada Will Phase Out Single-Use Plastics by 2020

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has announced that all their Canadian locations will phase out single-use plastic products in the near future.

Items such as plastic straws, plates, cups, and garbage bags will be eliminated by 2020.

They have said that new products will be designed to be reused over time and generate as little waste as possible.

The company has bold ambitions moving forward. IKEA’s long-term goal is to have all products it sells be made from renewable or recyclable material by the year 2030.

IKEA isn’t the only large company to come out and make such an announcement this week. A&W announced that it’ll eliminate the use and distribution of plastic straws by the end of the year.
