Health Canada has just issued a recall for a select number of above-ground pools due to a “drowning hazard.”
If you own any of these pools, you are advised to determine if your product is part of the recall and then follow the next steps.
BESTWAY, INTEX, POLYGROUP
Of the affected pools, they include certain Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup above-ground pools, which are 48-inches and taller. They have compression straps that run along the outside and over the vertical support legs. They include models sold from:
- Bestway, 2008 – 2024
- Coleman Power Steel
- Power Steel
- Steel Pro
- Intex, 2003 – 2012
- Metal Frame Pools
- Ultra Frame Pools
- Polygroup, 2006 – 2025
- Outbound (2015 – 2025)
- Funsicle (2023 – 2025)
- Summer Waves (2015 – 2025)
- Summer Escapes (2006 – 2015)
Health Canada states that the determined issue is from “the compression strap that surrounds the outside of the pool legs.” This compression strap may create a foothold, which could then allow children access to the pool and pose a drowning risk.

There have been no injury or incident reports in Canada as of July 17, 2025. Companies in the United States have “received 3 reports of incidents and 9 reports of drownings.”
There have been approximately 266,000 units sold in Canada and 5 million in the United States.
NEXT STEPS
If your pool is on the list above, then you are urged to contact Bestway, Intex, or Polygroup for a repair kit. Parents “should ensure that children cannot access the pool unattended or, alternatively, drain the pool until the repair can be installed.”
You can either call, email, or check online with Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup for more information.
