There are a number of fun events happening in the Lower Mainland over Canada Day long weekend; however, the Greater Vancouver Zoo offers a unique experience to observe a vast array of fascinating animals up close.
On Friday, June 29th, the weekend starts off with the launch of the highly-anticipated Keeper Talks. Focusing on 15 animals out of the Zoo’s 140 different species, these talks provide guests with a fun learning experience and in-depth look at some interesting creatures. Specifically, they’ll get an insider’s perspective on a day in the life of both keepers and animals.

On Sunday, July 1st, a new Family Farmyard opens with a variety of animals including rabbits, sheep, goats, chickens and geese. It allows guests an interactive, hands-on learning opportunity with some adorable critters.

What’s more, the Zoo has refurbished its much loved train, which will be unveiled in a ceremony on July 2nd at 10.30am. The train station will also be named after long-time team member, Hugh Lavery.
As a cherished member of the Zoo community, Lavery dedicated his time and energy on the train for over twelve years. As a passionate conductor, he was enthusiastic about providing guests with a wonderful experience onboard. His favourite motto was, “when you are out with the guests, you smile.”
