The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has just issued a national recall after metal was found in a popular Costco snack. These extraneous materials can prove a health risk, with customers being informed not to consume the food product.
Golden Island Costco Recall
The recall concerns Golden Island brand Korean Barbeque Recipe Fire-grilled Pork Jerky, which is sold at Costco, among other grocery and retail stores. The CFIA notes that this is a Canada-wide notice, as well as being placed at a Class II recall.
The CFIA splits recalls into three different tiers– Class I, II, and III. At the bottom, Class III recalls have a low risk of danger, although they can cause undesirable health problems. Class I recalls are instead at the top with high risks that can lead to serious death problems, or even death.

In the middle, Class II recalls can result in “short-term or non-life threatening health problems.” But, these issues are still more pressing than those in Class III.
“Due to presence of pieces of metal”, the jerky is thus not fit for consumption. Those with the product are being advised to “not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product.” It can be returned to a Costco warehouse to obtain a full refund.
