Free Public Transit On New Years Eve in Metro Vancouver

New Year’s Eve revellers can leave the transit pass at home and spend all their change on tequila shots. As in previous years, TransLink is making transit service free on Wednesday evening (December 31) after 5 p.m. The free service ends Thursday morning (January 1) at 5 a.m. Transit will operate under their Sunday/holiday schedule from early Thursday morning to night.

The 604’s regional transportation authority says SkyTrain will operate for an extra hour to serve New Year’s Eve party-goers. The last departures from Waterfront Station will be at 2:05 a.m. for the Canada Line to YVR-Airport station, 2:15 a.m. to Richmond-Brighouse, and 2:16 a.m. for the Expo and Millennium lines. The last SeaBus will pull out of Lonsdale Quay at 2 a.m. and Waterfront at 2:20 a.m.

Free fares start at 5 p.m. on December 31, 2014 and go until 5 a.m. January 1 2015.

  • Bus service will run usual weekday schedules with some routes running additional evening/late-night trips after their normal schedules.
  • SkyTrain will run usual weekday schedules with more frequent evening trains and will extend service by approximately one hour. The last Expo Line train to King George will leave Waterfront at 2:16 a.m.; the last Canada Line train leaves Waterfront at 2:05 a.m. (to YVR) and 2:15 a.m. (to Richmond-Brighouse).
  • SeaBus will operate a normal weekday schedule but will extend service by about one hour with the last sailing from Lonsdale Quay at 2 a.m. and Waterfront at 2:20 a.m.
  • West Coast Express afternoon trains depart from Waterfront at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 4:20 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. The 12:55 p.m. TrainBus will be replaced by the 1 p.m. train. All other TrainBus trips will depart at their regular times.

The following bus routes will run more evening/late-night trips for New Year’s Eve.
