Translink’s Evergreen Skytrain line, which was promised to open in the fall of 2016, has been hit with another delay and won’t open to the public until at least early 2017.
B.C.’s Transportation Ministry made the announcement earlier today, after recently boring a 2-km tunnel through a section of Burnaby Mountain.
The $1.4 billion project is three quarters complete, but tunneling delays and system installations will force crews to work through the summer of 2016 and push back operational plans.
Crews were hit with problems earlier this year when the tunnel boring machine got stuck under Clarke Road and Seaview Drive for a few months due to water and dirt getting into the machine’s cutter head.
Once open, the nearly 11-km Evergreen line will connect Port Moody, Coquitlam, and north Burnaby to Vancouver.
