As part of Vancouver Celtic Festival 2015, Standing Room Only Theatre have been commissioned to present the inaugural theatrical event of the festival; the Canadian West Coast premiere of Conor McPherson’s award-winning Irish play ‘The Weir.’ Set in a rural Irish bar, the play revolves around a group of regulars discussing life and love with their usual witty banter. The evening starts off like any other, but a visit from a new girl in town kicks off a round of spooky storytelling and emotional outpouring that is as much about missed connections as it is about personal hauntings.
As an exciting twist, Standing Room Only Theatre are presenting this modern Irish classic as a site specific piece of theatre; The show will be staged in two fully functional celtic pubs in Vancouver, creating a realistic and dramatic setting. The action will take place around the audience who will be situated in tables near the bar, sipping their drinks, and watching the action unfold. Every performance will be distinctly immediate and surprisingly different- this is one immersive celtic experience you don’t want to miss!
