One of the city’s most highly-anticipated events, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, returns this spring.
The city holds over 40,000 cherry blossom trees, and the blossoming of those endless clouds of flowers are enough reason to celebrate.

- This Indoor Urban Hike Has Beers and 360º Aerial Views of Vancouver At The End
Running from Thursday April 4th – Sunday, April 28th, experience Mother Nature’s representation of romance, fragility, and growth all rolled into one.
A non-profit festival started in 2005 by Linda Poole, as a way of celebrating the cherry blossom trees, that were gifted to Vancouver from Japan as well as a way of recognizing the beauty around us. It’s also a way of honouring the ancient Sakura Festivals of Japan (Hanami), a festival that focuses on the importance of beauty’s impermanence – just like the host lifespan of the cherry blossoms.
Throughout the festival, several events are being put on in honour of the blossoms.
These events include:
- Haiku Workshop
- The Big Sing
- Sakura Night
- Cherry Jam Downtown Concert
- Sakura Days Japan Fair
- The Big Picnic
- Plein Art Painting Class
- Spring Lights Illumination
- Haiku Invitational
- BC Blossom Photo Watch
- Tree Talks & Walks
About 50 different cultivars of flowering cherry trees come into bloom, lighting up Metro Vancouver and painting neighbourhoods in awash of colour from a blush of pink to pure snow white cherry blossoms.
