Stage 43 Theatrical Society is excited to announce the final production of our 42nd season: The Father: A Tragic Farce, by Florian Zeller translated by Christopher Hampton, directed by Océanne Trudel, who was co-Director of our highly successful production of Footloose in October 2022.

The Father takes a fascinating look inside the mind of Andre, a retired dancer living with his daughter Anne and her husband. Or is he a retired engineer receiving a visit from Anne who has moved away with her boyfriend? Why do strangers keep turning up, and where has he left his watch? In a darkly humorous and deeply poignant translation, this is a tragi-comic mystery, a sobering and realistic family story.

A film adaptation of the play was co-written by the original playwright Florian Zeller and translator Christopher Hampton, with Zeller making his directorial debut. The film starred Sir Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman and was nominated for six Academy Awards – winning for Best Actor (Hopkins) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Zeller and Hampton). It has been on several lists as one of the best films of the 21st century.

Highlighting amazing local talent, the cast features many experienced actors from the Tri-Cities and around the lower mainland. Kathryn du Crôs, who plays Anne, has appeared previously with Stage 43 (Calendar Girls and Ken Ludwig’s Murder on the Orient Express), and we welcome the others to their first production with us. All are excited to bring these characters to life.
