Celebrating in sunny July for Taiwanese Heritage Month in Canada (THMC), this month-long celebration will be bringing “the best of Taiwanese arts, culture, and heritage to communities across Greater Vancouver like never before.”
These events are the perfect places to appreciate the rich and amazing culture of Taiwan!
TAIWANESE HERITAGE MONTH IN CANADA
There are tons of things happening throughout July for THMC. Below is a full break-down of everything going on, week-by-week.
Week 1: July 4-6
Kicking off the festivities is the Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Festival! Head to the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza for a full weekend of free outdoor performances on two stages. Expect Taiwanese music, cultural workshops, artisan markets, and an artist exhibition.
Week 2: July 12-13
This is another weekend with live performances, but indoors instead! At Surrey City Hall’s Centre Stage and Atrium, you can experience dance performances and visual art displays that highlight the relationship between Taiwan and Canada.
Week 3: July 19-20
You can find interactive talks, musicians galore, hands-on workshops, and traditional Taiwanese food here during TCC Community Days. Hosted at the Taiwanese Cultural Centre in Vancouver’s Marpole neighbourhood, this will be two floors full of culture.
Taiwan Cinema: July 17 – 24
Playing four of the most moving Taiwanese short films of the past decade, these features contain the unique perspective of Taiwanese filmmakers. These will be shown at the Taiwanese Cultural Centre. Experience artistry, culture, and heritage in the form of film.
Grand Finale: July 26
THMC will be completing the celebrations with their closing event: the Taiwanese Canadian Musician Series Concert at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre. Don’t miss these spectacular performances while you make some memories you won’t ever forget.
