Surrey Tree Lighting Festival 2019: Everything You Need To Know

Travel & Outdoors
Surrey Tree Lighting1

With more than 30 local performers, amusement rides, and a holiday market, the 60-foot tall tree is just the cherry on top of the Surrey Tree Lighting Festival.

This year’s annual event takes place on Saturday, November 23rd and offers families and friends a chance to join in on a full-day of events.

Here’s your guide to this year’s festival.

Tree Lighting

The lighting of the 60ft Christmas Tree is the main event. Join Mayor McCallum and Santa Claus, among others, while they flip the switch to light up the giant 60-foot tree, loaded with giant ornaments, lights, and a tree-topping star. The Surrey tree lighting takes place at 6:30 pm at City Hall Plaza.

Holiday Fun Zone

The Holiday Fun Zone is one of the most Instagrammable spots at the festival. Get your next selfie in the Light Tunnel and Enchanted Forest.

You can also get nostalgic with the giant Light Brite, where you can make your own shapes on this giant light-brite display.

Don’t miss out on the Candy Cane Dance tent with an LED dance floor and live DJ sets. This tent will have pop-up performances and even a breakdance battle at 4pm.

For more breakdancing, check out the demos and cultural performances at the North Pole Stage, next to the Food Trucks off University Drive.

There are also games to play, whether you enjoy more physical sports or ones on the screen. Join in on the fun at the road hockey tent or take a seat in the arcade bus.

Then, of course, there are amusement rides, including the Berry-go-round, Elephants & Jets, and Frozen Bounce.

Holiday Market & Village

In the large tent on Surrey Civic Plaza, is the Holiday Market & Village. Inside the Village it will feature exhibitors, live music, and various light installations.

Then, have a wander through the Market to meet artists and crafters. Pick up a few one-of-a-kind gifts along the way, for those who made it onto your “Nice” list.
