Our Royal Canadian Navy has a treat for local ship fanatics. The Peruvian tall ship, BAP UNIÓN, will visit North Vancouver from Thursday May 9th – Sunday May 12th, 2019.
Likewise, the visit marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and Canada.
BAP UNIÓN is a four-masted, steel-hulled Class “A” barque. The ship was launched in 2014 and commissioned in 2016.
The vessel is named to honour a Peruvian corvette that took part in the 1879 – 1883 War of the Pacific as part of a Naval squadron under the command of Admiral Miguel Grau. He was a hero of the Peruvian Navy and recognized in the year 2000, as the “Peruvian of the Millenium” by popular vote.
