OMG Social Media Conference 2013


With the social media revolution in full force, one thing has become abundantly clear for businesses: an online presence is crucial. Luckily for local entrepreneurs in Vancouver, a new, innovative conference will revolutionize the way businesses communicate with customers online.

OMG Social Media Conference, slated for August 15, 2013, is the vision of co-founders Salina Siu, 24 and Lesley Yuen, 22. After attending several social media conferences, the young women recognized a common problem linking each event.

“Small business owners weren’t getting anything applicable out of these conferences,” said Yuen. “For a crowd struggling to get any online engagement, they’re not interested in high-level tech speak. They want results, they want to walk out knowing how to use social media to grow their business.”

The importance of social media is a truth that can no longer be ignored. According to a study done by Balihoo, 71% of social media participants are more likely to purchase goods from a brand they follow online. Acknowledging the potential of social media to empower local entrepreneurs, Siu and Yuen set forth to make their vision a reality.

“What makes this conference special is it’s the first social media conference to target small business owners directly,” said Siu. “Because our audience is so specific, we have to work hard to ensure that the content is relevant to them. Our end goal is tangible results, which is why participants will be strategizing, networking and filling out a workbook throughout the day. We want to get attendees relating the concepts back to their own business immediately so they can walk away with a social media plan that’s ready to be implemented.”

The conference will feature an incredible line-up of speakers, including keynotes from TELUS, ROI Media Works and George Moen, the past president of Blenz Coffee. Attendees will also participate in sessions led by ING Direct’s Meena Sandhu, Junction Creative’s Conner Galway and digital growth strategist Bosco Anthony. With over 10 social media experts present throughout the day as well, attendees will get a chance to mingle with experienced representatives from big companies like the Vancouver Canucks and HootSuite Media.
