Explore The Abbotsford Tulip Festival This Spring

Abbotsford Tulip Festival

One of the Fraser Valley’s most highly anticipated festivals is set to return April 10th. The Abbotsford Tulip Festival is a favourite for locals and tourists alike.

Look out into a sea of vibrant tulips, assorted by colour—with mountains and sky acting as the backdrop.

The festival is also the perfect way to kick off the Spring season by celebrating the blooming bouquets.

The 10-acres of rainbow-coloured tulip fields seem to go on for days. Visitors can check it out any day of the week from 9am to dusk.

Besides basking in the abundance of beauty, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy.

Make a day of it and pack a picnic basket, or grab some grub at one of the food trucks that will be on-site. There’s a covered picnic area, photo cut-out boards and a children’s play area.

Bouquets of freshly-cut tulips will be available for purchase at the flower market. For those looking to create their own bouquet, there is a special “u-pick” area to wander through.

Don’t forget to bring your camera as the photo opportunities are endless. They also offer early access for photographers wanting to get that perfect shot at sunrise.

It all began when Peter Warmerdam immigrated to the Fraser Valley from the Netherlands in 1950. His horticulture and farming experience led him to grow a few acres of daffodils.

In 1974, he purchased land in Abbotsford’s Sumas Prairie, where he and his family grew tulips. His granddaughter was the one who suggested creating a Bloom Tulip Festival to allow others to wander through the fields and experience the beauty.
