Gung Hay Fat Choy! Chinese New Year is right around the corner and there are lots of celebrations happening around Metro Vancouver to welcome the Year of the Rooster.
Ring in the New Year at one of these events all while soaking in the colourful culture.
Join in on the festivities at Aberdeen Centre from Friday, Jan. 27th to Sunday, the 29th. It kicks off with a night of entertainment and celebration. Programs on the main stage include a live countdown show with Fairchild Television and lots of Chinese dancing and orchestra performances.
Watch as Sherman Tai, master of fortune telling and feng shui puts on an awesome show for charity, by donation on Friday, Jan. 27th. The casino will also be hosting a celebration on Saturday, Jan. 28th with a blessing ceremony and a lion and dragon dance.
It’s the 44th year of the epic parade as Vancouver’s signature event celebrating the Chinese New Year. It takes place on Sunday, Jan. 29th at 11 am in none other than Chinatown. Expect to see the classic lion dances, cultural dance troupes, marching bands, martial arts performances and more. The parade will take about 2.5 hours, beginning at Millennium Gate on Pender Street (between Shanghai Alley and Taylor Street), proceeding along Pender Street, then onto Gore Street, Keefer Street and then finally Keefer at Abbott.
Taking place on Sunday, Jan. 29th at Lansdowne Centre—the event will welcome the New Year with the Richmond Chinese Community Society. Celebrate with Chinese opera, drumming, martial arts demonstrations and of course, a lion dance. There will also be booths showcasing Chinese calligraphy and crafts.
Visit Parker Place Mall anytime from Wednesday, Feb. 1st to Sunday, Feb. 5th to celebrate the Year of the Rooster. Festivities include a lion dance, Chinese calligraphy, prizes, and traditional Chinese food.
