One of the best parts about spring in Vancouver is the cherry blossoms and with that comes the Cherry Blossom Festival.
The annual festival is returning this April, with a series of events throughout the month.
Here is what’s happening at this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival.
This contest is a chance for budding poets to get their love for the blossoms out on paper. You can submit up to two unpublished poems on the theme of cherry blossoms. The contest is open until June 1, 2020.
Cherry Jam Downtown Concerts
This year’s Cherry Jam Downtown Concerts will happen over two days from Thursday, April 2-3rd. The event will have live musicians and performers at Burrard SkyTrain Station.
The Big Picnic
The Big Picnic brings together hundreds of people under the blossoms at Queen Elizabeth Park. There will be many food trucks to choose from and community vendors hosting activities for kids. It will take place Saturday, April 11th.
Tree Talks & Walks
From April 2-26th, you can take part in Tree Talks & Walks, alongside other blossom lovers. This is a guided exploration of the cherry blossoms at more than nine Vancouver parks and neighbourhoods.
While Sakura Days Japan Fair has been cancelled this year, Sakura Night is an annual fundraiser at Stanley Park Pavilion. This will include dishes by Chef Will Lew and Benkei Ramen, alongside wine and craft beer by local brewers.
The festival shows off Vancouver’s 40,000 cherry blossom trees, which were originally given to the city as a gift from Japan. The city got its first trees back in the 1930’s.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is all happening between April 2-26th in locations throughout Vancouver.
So, don’t miss it – especially because it’s free! And hopefully we’ll have lots of trees this year as The Weather Network predicts a warmer than usual spring.
