CandyTown Gingerbread

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, as Yaletown plans to transform into CandyTown on November 30th.

Thanks to the Yaletown Business Improvement Association (YBIA), CandyTown is back for its eighth year. While the free event still features exciting festival main-stays, this year comes with a few new treats as well.

“CandyTown is a favourite amongst the Yaletown community, as well as us here at the YBIA,” says Annette O’Shea, Executive Director, YBIA. “This year’s event has a lot of exciting new elements that we can’t wait for Vancouverites to experience.”

As one of Vancouver’s top outdoor winter markets, there is a lot packed into a single day.

So here’s our guide to one of the city’s most exciting holiday events:

Winter Is Coming

This year’s CandyTown includes an adult-focused attraction, where visitors can marvel at intricate ice sculptures and even live swordplay demonstrations.

Plus, there will also be a winter throne, so get your Instagram shots ready!

Academie Duello will be on-site for the “sleigh-ing” of the dragon—a spectacle with swords and a dragon, you won’t want to miss.

CandyTown Cocktail Tour

If you’re 19+, explore the event’s popular self-guided Cocktail Tour. There will be over a handful of restaurants participating with unique holiday drinks available for one day only!

Roaming Characters

Of course, there will also be some returning favourites—including photos with Santa and the Ice Queen.

Plenty of characters will be dancing around the streets, dressed up as gingerbread men, candy canes and snowmen. There will also be other musical entertainers and vendors roaming the neighbourhood.

All I Want for Christmas

With the holidays comes the time to give. The “All I Want For Christmas” street market features a plethora of local artisans.

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides

Returning again this year is the fan-favourite horse-drawn carriage rides. Meet in front of the Roundhouse Community Centre to start your whimsical journey. Rides are by donation, with all proceeds going directly towards the BC Children’s Hospital, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and the Rotary Club. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights of CandyTown!

How to Get There

This event transforms Mainland, Hamilton and Davie Street through dazzling lights and festive decor. If you’re getting there by train, you can take the Canada Line to Yaletown Roundhouse.

To get there via the Expo Line, get off at Stadium Chinatown. From there, you can walk or jump on the 23 bus toward Beach to go two stops.
